Azerbaijan introduces state duty on issuance of sanitary certificate for food

02 June 2011 [13:30] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers introduced the state duty fee for issuing sanitary certificates, the Cabinet reported.

The Cabinet approved changes to the rules of the state sanitary registration of food and maintaining the state registry.

This decision became effective as of its signing on May 27, 2011.
Based on the law "On Food Products", food produced both within the Republic and imported should undergo an inspection of chemical, biological, toxicological and radiological characteristics and obtain a food-safety clearance with the state register.

Food that has passed the state’s food-safety clearance shall be issued a health certificate. The sale of food products failing to pass the state food-safety inspection is prohibited.

The state will deny clearance to various types of foods which fall under certain general categories, or are composed of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, or which are dietary supplements.

The rules on state food safety regulation and maintenance of the state registry of food are established by the relevant executive authority [the Cabinet].

The provision of a food-safety certificate for food, on a fee basis, is reflected in amendments to the law "On Food Products " adopted March 4, 2011, and approved by President Ilham Aliyev’s decree in April.
