Azerbaijan State Statistics Committee publicizes results of Global Assessment

Today, Azerbaijan State Statistics Committee publicized the results of a global assessment of statistical services.

Delivering speech at the event, Deputy Chairman of the Committee Rauf Salimov noted that the global assessment of the national statistical system was conducted by six experts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Eurostat and statistical offices of Czech Republic, Austria and Norway. The evaluation was conducted during two missions. The experts held discussions with representatives of the EU, UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Bank’s representation in Azerbaijan, , Azerbaijan State Economic University, the Economic Institute of ANAS, the Scientific Research Institute for Economic Reforms, Ministry of Economic Development, 18 ministries, committees and banks, 5 media, 4 local statistical agencies and members of the Board of Statistics.

According to words of Salimov, the purpose of the global assessment is to obtain accurate information about the level of development of official statistics, the detection of flaws and gaps, and assisting in their elimination, as well as presenting the scope of statistics in Azerbaijan in line with international standards.

Salimov added that the results of global assessments were reflected in 390 paragraphs, of which 319 (82%) was studied with positive results and activities of the SSC, 17 points (4%) - along with the presence of a positive outcome, the existing shortcomings in these areas , 7 (2%) – shortcomings, 47 points (12%) - recommendations.

Note that, the first global assessment has been created in the Statistical Office of the European Union, and since then, the audits conducted in the statistical services of many countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
