Iran to allocate $100 million for railway construction

Iran has allocated $111 million to build the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara Railway from the budget for 2011-2012, member of the Iranian Parliamentary Commission on Budget Integration Issues Farhad Dalgpush was quoted as saying by the Iranian IRNA state news agency.

Dalgpush said talks were held with Russia and China on this project.
As a result, a tentative agreement had been reached with Russia and a treaty with that country concerning this project will be signed soon.

He said construction of 171-km section of the Rasht-Astara section was launched in 2010 and work is carried out at a high level. The railway commissioning is scheduled for 2013.

The Qazvin-Rasht-Astara Railway is part of the North-South transport corridor, implemented by Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran.
