Azerbaijan, UAE sign agreement on cooperation in customs

03 May 2011 [14:59] - TODAY.AZ
The customs authorities of Azerbaijan and the UAE signed an agreement on mutual assistance and cooperation in Baku customs.

The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev and Director General of the UAE federal customs authority Khalid Ali Al-Bostani.

The document was signed at the third meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic, trade and technical cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE in Baku.
Aliyev previously said that Azerbaijan and the UAE have many areas for cooperation.

He said that the main area of mutual interest is in customs evaluation.

"Every year we improve the principle of evaluating goods," he said. "Many goods, imported to Azerbaijan from the UAE, are manufactured in third countries."

"There are cases of smuggling the precious metals," he said. "It has recently become popular to import expensive mobile phones from the UAE. Therefore, we have many common areas for mutual cooperation."
