26 April 2011 [16:23] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan is one of Georgia’s largest trade partners. As of late 2010, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to $0.5 billion, Georgian First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Archil Kekelia said at the presentation of Georgian investment opportunities in Baku.

"Azerbaijan is one of our largest investment partners," he said. "This event is important for Azerbaijani investors to get acquainted with the Georgian ongoing economic processes."

He said an increase in trade turnover between the countries was observed as of the first quarter. Its growth is expected to appear during the year and over the next five years.

The construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway is of great importance for the whole region, he said.

"China and Kazakhstan also expressed interest in it. So, the countries must intensify the efforts in this direction," he added

Georgia is also aimed at increasing the tourist flow from Azerbaijan, he said.

Azerbaijani Deputy Economic Development Minister Niyazi Safarov said the trade relations between the two countries are developing dynamically.

"Georgia has a special place among the strategic partners of Azerbaijan," he said. "All the necessary legal base has been created to develop the cooperation between the countries".

Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) President Adil Mammadov said that Azerbaijani entrepreneurs actively operate in Georgia. They are represented in such sectors as tourism, construction and agriculture.

The investment opportunities of Georgia were presented in Baku. The presentation was organized by AZPROMO and the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry.
