Belarus and Azerbaijan have great prospects of development of cooperation

23 April 2011 [09:15] - TODAY.AZ
Belarus-Azerbaijan cooperation has been increasingly vibrant. The prospects for cooperation are great in all areas, the chairman of the permanent commission on economy, budget and finance, Vadim Popov, said as he met with the chairman of the standing committee on economic policy of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Ziyad Samedzade, BELTA news agency reported.

Vadim Popov said that in the two months of this year, bilateral trade totaled more than $313 million. The two countries have signed more than 60 various treaties and agreements. A number of documents are in the pipeline including the treaty on economic and trade cooperation. According to the Belarusian senator, parliamentarians of both countries need to exert maximum efforts to ensure its early implementation since it combines a number of other treaties and agreements on cooperation. "Business communities of the two countries are ready to work on joint ventures; they ask us many questions, and we must create the rules of game in the interests of the two countries," said Vadim Popov.

He thanked the Azerbaijani parliament for Belarus' support in the international arena. "Our countries have similar views on many issues. We are not against the European Partnership. We oppose the neglect of opinion of the state and its right to conduct an independent foreign policy," he said.

Ziyad Samedzade, in turn, noted: "We view Belarus as a big friend for us". He stressed that Azerbaijan supports the course chosen by Belarus on the modernization of the economy and the management policy on the whole. In his words, many countries have already realized that Belarus has chosen the right development path. Modernization of the economy and social stability are exactly those parameters that give the country confidence in the future, the Azeri official stated.

He also expressed condolences over the deadly bombing in Minsk subway on 11 April. "The attack was meant to destabilize the situation in the country, but I am confident that the Belarusian people will get through it with dignity," the official said.
