21 April 2011 [16:18] - TODAY.AZ
Baku is hosting the eighth meeting of National Coordinators of Economic Research and Statistics of the Organization of Economic Cooperation (ECO) today. The way to bring the statistics in these countries in line with a single methodology is being discussed.

"The ECO member states are jointly preparing a publication on socioeconomic development in their countries," State Statistics Committee chairman Arif Veliyev said. "We are discussing the issues associated with this at the meeting."

He added that it is necessary to bring the methodology in line with international standards.

"At present, the socioeconomic development collection is underway," he said. "Azerbaijan has proposed publishing these materials after all the countries provide their data."

Representatives from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Iran are attending the meeting in Baku.

This is the second such event in Baku. The first meeting was held in 2002.
The ECO was founded in 1985. The organization obtained observer status in the UN in 1993 and a year later obtained observer status in the Organization of Islamic Conference.
