Work is underway to prepare a feasibility study for a logistics center at the international sea port in the Alat settlement, Azerbaijani Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov said on Tuesday.
He said the center will be created after completing work to build the new port.
"At present, the relevant normative legal documents are under preparation," Panahov said.
He said a contractor has not yet been selected.
The new port will be constructed in three stages and will be completed by 2015. The first stage envisages the construction of two bridges for ferry boats, three freight bridges for containers, Ro-Ro ships and simple (universal) dry cargo ships. The second stage envisages the construction of three other freight bridges. And the third stage envisages the construction of two additional freight bridges. The project is worth over $400 million. After the port is finished its capacity will be 11.6 million tons of cargo.
The port will be multimodal as it will create a free economic zone and a logistic center.
