WB plans to hold second forum on Azerbaijan's long-term economic development

04 April 2011 [19:22] - TODAY.AZ
The World Bank and the Azerbaijani government plan to hold a second forum on Azerbaijan's long-term economic development in September, WB Baku Office head Joseph Owen said.

"The second forum will focus on the economy's growth and diversification. We will consider a number of issues related to reforming higher education and the labor market," Owen said.

World-renowned experts and WB senior management will attend the forum.

Following the first such forum on Oct. 21, 2009, the sides agreed to prepare an action plan to diversify the economy with a view to improve development, as well as to hold a new forum to assess progress and results. The forum was organized in Baku with the participation of WB Managing Director Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Azerbaijan Days were held at the WB head office in Washington in March. Central Bank of Azerbaijan Chairman Elman Rustamov held talks with WB President Robert Zoellick. Rustamov said the event would raise cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

Azerbaijan has been a WB member since 1992.
