Azerbaijani, Turkish municipalities to implement joint projects

Azerbaijani and Turkish municipalities will prepare joint projects, said chairman of Ankara's Kecioren municipality Mustafa Akin at a meeting with members of Azerbaijani parliament's committee for regional affairs. Akin noted the projects will be prepared in accordance with a protocol on cooperation signed between Ankara`s Kecioren and Azerbaijan's Sumgayit municipalities.

Akin pointed out the purpose of his visit to Azerbaijan was to discuss ways to develop ties between municipalities of the two countries.

He said relations between Kecioren and Sumgayit municipalities were developing rapidly, adding several joint projects have already been prepared. "One of these projects is reconstruction of the Azerbaijani park in Kecioren and monument erected to the victims of the Khojaly genocide. The project is expected to be completed early next year."

Chairman of the committee Arif Rahimzade briefed Akin on the accomplishments achieved in Azerbaijan since national leader Heydar Aliyev's coming to power again. He also spoke of the progress done in Azerbaijan to develop municipalities.

Rahimzade also praised the cooperation between municipalities of Azerbaijan and Turkey. Members of the committee Fattah Heydarov and Tahir Rzayev told of the role of parliaments and municipalities of Azerbaijan and Turkey in development of bilateral relationship.
