16 March 2011 [19:20] - TODAY.AZ
SOCAR plans to begin drilling of the second exploration well in the recently discovered gas field Umid in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea in April, the head of SOCAR Rovnag Abudllayev said.

He said that drilling of the second well is necessary to delineate the field. It will be drilled to the north of the first well. The project work has been completed. In late March-early April, SOCAR will receive equipment to launch the operations.

SOCAR is confident that there are 250 billion cubic meters of gas and 40 million tons of condensate at Umid.

The Umid Field is located 75 kilometers from Baku. In 1953, the first geophysical works were carried out at the field. They were repeated in 1972 in a somewhat improved form. From 1977 to 1992, 9 wells were drilled without result.
