
Azerbaijan has trade ties with more than 140 countries and price growth is normal as a result, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Economic Policy Committee Chief Ziyad Samadzade said today.
"The country takes special measures to suppress and eliminate prices hikes on the consumer market," Samadzade said.
He added that processes occurring in partner countries continue to affect Azerbaijan.
"Therefore, the Azerbaijani government is taking all the necessary measures to reduce dependence on imports and ensure food security through domestic production," Samadzade said.
Consumer prices and tariffs for services rose by 2.2% in February compared to January and by 8.9% in January-February compared to the same period in 2010.
Food prices rose by 2.2%, prices on industrial goods by 0.1%, and tariffs on services by 4.3%.
Food prices rose by 13.7% and non-food prices jumped 2.8% compared to January-February 2010, while prices on services rose by 2%.
The country’s consumer market observed a gradual decline in the prices of some foods, such as vegetable oil, sugar, sugar, eggs, onions, and potatoes.
Based on the recent surveys, a price decrease was observed on oil at 6.5%, sugar, eggs, chicken, and dairy products, among others.
