18 February 2011 [18:46] - TODAY.AZ
The Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev pays great attention to cooperation with the American company UOP in carrying out the necessary reconstruction work to improve the quality of motor fuel produced by the refinery, Refinery Head Elman Ismayilov said at a meeting with UOP President Rajeev Gautam.

Ismayilov said the reconstruction work involves changing the catalyst on the catalytic reforming unit to increase product quality, as well as to increase the performance of a catalytic cracking unit to 2.5-3 million tons.

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), which owns two refineries in Azerbaijan, has been working to improve the quality of diesel fuel and gasoline produced by the company.

SOCAR intends to switch to Euro-3 standard in the gasoline production in 2012, and in the diesel production – by late 2011. Currently, gasoline and diesel produced by SOCAR are fully compliant with Euro-2 standard.

SOCAR is the sole producer of oil in Azerbaijan. The company has two refineries with total capacity of 20 million tons per year. SOCAR processes oil produced from the offshore and onshore fields developed independently.
