SOCAR set to start construction of oil museum in Azerbaijan

In 2011, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to begin construction of oil museum in the territory of Oil and Gas Production Department "Bibi Heybat" in Azerbaijan, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said.

According to him, works have been conducted on cleaning oil-contaminated lands in the territory of the OGPD, after which the territory was planted with various trees. According to plans, the museum will be located in an area of 45 hectares.

Also, according to Abdullayev, it is planned to construct a new housing complex for oil workers in this territory. Houses that are included in a new housing complex will consist of 2,000 apartments.

Turkish company TOCA has become the winner of the tender announced by SOCAR to prepare the conception of oil museum in Azerbaijan.

The project envisages constructing open and closed zones of museum complex. The open zone will include exhibition galleries, multiplex-type cinema, child museums and Internet club, several cafes, souvenir shops, conference-halls, research-and-development center, library, centralized archives of SOCAR and a hotel.

Moreover, a complex of parks and a parking area will be built here. Museum building will be located in closed zone. During the construction of the new museum it is planned to use high quality constructions, materials and equipment up to international standards, as well new technologies and innovations.
