"Azerbaijan saw rapid growth in tourism over past three years"

“The construction of Shahdag Tourism Complex continues in Azerbaijan’s Gusar region,” Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfas Garayev told journalists, APA reports. He said by the end of winter artificial snow-making system will be completed, one of the five elevators will be installed.

“We will be ready to open two hotels in summer. As an experiment, we will observe the general situation. Next winter tourists will be able to spend their time there,” he said.

Abulfas Garayev underlined that this is the first stage of the project on the construction of Shahdagh Tourism Complex. “This is a ten-year project,” he said.

Minister also gave information about the tourists, who came to Azerbaijan in 2010. According to him, tourism has developed rapidly in Azerbaijan in the past three years.

“Of course, there are differences year after year. We advance by 40% one year, 5% the other year. We do not fall behind the planned growth rate,” he said.

According to Abulfas Garayev, the most important step taken in the field of tourism this year, was signing by President of the State Program on the development of tourism.

“President’s visit to the international tourism exhibition for the first time, republic tourism exhibition held in Azerbaijan for the first time were very important. These events will give an impetus to the development of the tourism industry of Azerbaijan,” he said.
