SOCAR Georgia lays gas line to Duzagrama village

Within the presidential program "Gas in all villages," the SOCAR Georgia (SOCAR's Georgian representation) has completed the gasification of the Duzagrama village in the Sagarejo district of Georgia, the Georgian Energy Ministry reported.

Within the project, construction of the 11-kilometer gas pipeline was carried out, for which 528,157 lari was spent.

Gasification of the villages means laying gas pipelines of high and medium pressure, after which, any user can get gas by concluding an agreement between users and gas distribution company.

Within the project the gasification of 70% of the country's territory is planned. SOCAR supplies its own gas to Georgia via a pipeline linking the two countries in the Gazakh district of Azerbaijan as part of its activity on the Georgia market. Power flow of gas through this pipeline is over 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

In November 2008, Azerbaijan and Georgia signed the agreement to stir up SOCAR's activity on Georgia gas market during next 5 years beginning from 2009. Under the agreement, SOCAR will launch subsidiaries to supply gas to consumer groups pinpointed by the Georgia government.

On Dec. 26, SOCAR and the Georgia Government signed an agreement to operate 30 gas supply grids and gas distribution networks in the Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida and Kvemo Kartli, Ajaria, Guria, Imereti, Samegrelo regions of Georgia. In April, SOCAR Energy Georgia acquired a gas distribution network in the Marneuli region populated by Azerbaijani community.

In January-November SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) exported 300.43 million cubic meters of gas to Georgia. In 2009 SOCAR exported over 1 billion cubic meters of gas compared to about 789 million in 2008. Gas supplies to Georgia started in April 2008.
