Azerbaijan has second highest basic pension in CIS

Azerbaijan has the second highest basic pension in CIS. The basic pension is currently $106, State Social Protection Fund Chairman Salim Muslimov told media today.

The basic pension is $124.20 in Kazakhstan, $90.20 in Russia and $82.10 in Belarus.

"As of July 1, there were roughly 1.29 million pensioners in Azerbaijan," Muslimov said. "The figure will reach 1.38 million by late 2010."

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has issued a decree to increase the minimal monthly wage to 85 manat from Sept. 1, 2010. The base labor pension is 85 manat.

The fund's income for the first half of the year exceeded 824 million manat, or 65 million manat more than in January-June 2009.
