SOCAR launches monitoring on onshore and offshore fields

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Environmental Department has launched first season of monitoring on the onshore and offshore fields, and evaluation of environmental impact of processes of exploration and exploitation of oil and gas fields, the company said today.

The first seasonal marine monitoring was launched on fields of the '28 May' and 'Guneshli' Oil and Gas Production Units.  

During the initial monitoring, the company got many samples of chemical, microbiological and other compounds that were submitted to the complex research unit's laboratory.

The laboratory research is underway.

Initial results will be obtained in accordance with the results of research. It is planned to develop the final report after the secondary analysis in autumn.

The final report will provide information on geological structure of the field, meteorological conditions (climate, air temperature, wind, cloudiness, humidity, precipitation, fog, currents and waves), infrastructure (foundations, wells, oil and gas pipelines) analysis of water and bottom sediments, microbiological, hydro biological and ichthyologic data.
