EU information sessions organized in Baku and Ganja

European consumers are interested in Azerbaijani products and Azerbaijani businesses are interested in selling on the EU market. For that reason, the European Union Delegation in Baku in cooperation with Azerbaijan's Ministry of Economic Development is organising two workshops to inform Azerbaijani producers on how to export to the EU.

The European Union (EU) is the world’s largest single market and is also Azerbaijan's leading export partner. Since January 2009 Azerbaijani businesses enjoy preferential conditions to export to the EU called "GSP +" that reduce significantly ─ and in some cases even totally remove ─ the import duties to be paid when entering the EU market.

In order to maximize the benefits of this preferential trade regime and to boost bilateral trade, the EU provides an information tool "Export Helpdesk" where Azerbaijani exporters can obtain the necessary information concerning the requirements to enter European markets. The Export Helpdesk is a free internet site that gives detailed information on how to export to the European Union, from product specific standards to import tariffs and trade statistics as well as useful links to business associations.

Preferential export conditions and the Export Helpdesk information tool will be presented to Azerbaijani businesses and government officials at the workshops organized in Baku and Ganja on 5-6 July 2010. In Ganja, the Ministry of Economic Development will in addition take the opportunity to address the broader development of businesses in the Ganja-Kazakh region and its electronic trade website.

It is expected that at the end of these workshops the participants will be better informed about the opportunities offered by the GSP+ regime and will use the Export Helpdesk more systematically to diversify and boost their exports to the EU.
