'Coal remains major source of energy for humanity'

"Thanks to development of new technologies, coal remains one of major sources of energy for humanity,” Director of the Millennium Project Russia Node Nadezhda Gaponenko said at the Center for Strategic Studies under Azerbaijani President in Baku.

Making a presentation on “Global challenges and regional strategic: future of energy and nanotechnologies”, Nadezhda Gaponenko noted global energy demand will increase 57% by 2030 and hydrocarbon will remain major source of energy.

Global coal consumption, according to the Russian specialists, “encourage countries to build coal-fired power stations”

She noted rising oil prices boost renewable and nuclear energy. Gaponenko touched on the outlook for nanotechnologies. “Nanotechnologies will determine development of states within the next 20-25 years,” she said.

Millenium Project is an independent international think tank with Nodes around the world that gathers and accesses information on futures studies that produces the annual State of the Future report since 1997.
