IMF recalls its resident representative in Azerbaijan

06 October 2009 [11:08] - TODAY.AZ
The International Monetary Fund has recalled its resident representative in Azerbaijan.
"The IMF representative office in Azerbaijan might be closed because currently there is no programme under implementation and as part of efforts to reduce costs. Our representative office has already limited its operation and laid off some staff members. IMF will only leave a few staff members here for coordination with the government of Azerbaijan,” said the IMF Office in Baku.

Koba Gvenetadze was the last resident representative in Azerbaijan.

Since its membership in 1993, Azerbaijan has received over $600 million from IMF.

Azerbaijan plans to pay off the remaining liabilities of $40 million to IMF by 2014.
