01 September 2009 [12:22] - TODAY.AZ
A new unit of deep drilling Sahil has been established at the Complex Drilling Work Trust of the SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan), SOCAR said.
The new unit is tasked to drill deep wells with new equipment and technologies. The unit was supplied with three drilling rigs, which are used in oil and gas fields owned by the Nariman Narimanov Production Unit.

At present, SOCAR implements exploratory drilling of the first exploration well at the Umid gas field in the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian Sea. The project depth of the well is 6,500 meters. Rigs equipped with TOP-DRIVE system enables to ensure swift and accident-free drilling of wells. The depth of the exploration well is 1, 200 meters a of end of August.

This is the first exploration drilling the company has implemented independently over the past 15 years. The expected gas reserves in Umid field are estimated at 300 billion cubic meters and anticipated gas condensate reserves are estimated at 30-40 million tons.

Another rig is placed on the platform No. 578 in the "March 8th" field. There will be drilled new well with the depth of 5,900 meters. At present, the field produces about 420,000 cubic meters of gas. Geologists have identified nine points for further drilling.

The third rig was placed on the platform ?82 in the Bulla-Deniz. It is planned to drill well with depth of 6,400 meters in this gas condensate field. Presently, gas extraction from the field totals 450,000 cu m per day, while geologists believe gas lifting can be increased by several times.
