Turkmenistan signs a deal to supply gas to Iran

20 August 2009 [17:33] - TODAY.AZ
Iran and Turkmenistan have signed an agreement regulating prices and schedule of gas supply from Turkmenistan to Iran, CA-News reported with reference to “The Globalist."
Turkmenistan is ready to supply 6 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the neighbor state from the Dolatabad field. The gas will be pumped to refinery in the city of Mashad in the north-eastern Iran. However, there is a need for large-diameter pipeline between the two nations to ensure gas delivery.

However, it is widely believed that Iran will easily solve the problem: the authorities do not want to be in a difficult situation as last year when eleven cities of Iran were left without heating in midst of winter. Turkmenistan ceased gas supply referring to the complexity of technical and financial nature. The events coincided with the coldest winter for the past half-century in Iran.
