Azerbaijan to draft code to regulate construction sector

Azerbaijan will develop a code to regulate construction activities and align them with certain norms and laws, parliament’s Economic Policy Committee Chaiman Ziyad Samadzade said.
“Investment activity is growing steadily in an economically developing country like Azerbaijan. Like other industries, interest in building is also a growing and the volume of construction works is expanding. This necessitates formation of a separate legislative framework,” he said.

The parliament has drafted a new code which for the first time will regulate construction activities in the country, he said.

The parliamentarian said the draft of the Construction Code will be tabled for discussion at the autumn session. Experts of all relevant bodies are actively involved with drafting the bill. International practice will be widely used by in this area.

“In order to provide favorable living conditions of the people the Construction Code will govern the relations arising in the efficient formation of zones of settlement, construction and improvement of territories, towns and other settlements, development of productive, social, engineering and transport infrastructure, management of nature, preservation of monuments of history and culture and environmental protection,” he said.
