A parallel work of the power grids of Azerbaijan and Russia is very important for both countries, in particular for providing of Russia's south with energy, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Shmatko told a 35th meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council in Baku.
"We believe there are good opportunities for parallel operation of our power grids," Shmatko said.

There is every reason to anticipate the high efficiency of our energy systems, due to the fact that they are complementary to each other technologically. Today's meeting is scheduled to discuss the issue of construction of additional power grids between Azerbaijan and Dagestan to increase the power flow, Shmatko said.

"There is also a plan to discuss raising the reliability of our power grids", the minister said.

The sides also intend to discuss the creation of new power generating capacities in the two countries and especially hydroelectric power stations.
