The government will take due steps if cheap agricultural products imported to Azerbaijan from other countries have a negative impact on domestic production, said Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov.

The Minister noted that the government has due levers for regulating of this process. "Additional duties can be applied for import by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers. So far there is no need for that", said the Minister of Agriculture.
He said the world financial crisis has not affected the agrarian sector of Azerbaijan. The Minister considers it important to take necessary measures for development of cotton growing by the government in cooperation with stock companies. He said the low purchase price of cotton reduces the interest of farmers in this sector.
