Rasim Musabeyov: "Ecological arguments are a cynical game for the countries like Iran and even Russia"

27 January 2009 [14:16] - TODAY.AZ
It is well known that ecological arguments are a cynical game for the countries like Iran and even Russia, said famous Azerbaijani political scientist Rasim Musabeyov, commenting on Teheran's speaking against construction of a pipeline from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan by the Caspian Sea floor.

He noted that in reality they are driven by the wish to hinder the implementation of US-supported projects that will ensure supplies of energy sources of the Caspian basin by the communications bypassing their territories and thus being out of their control.

"Being aware that few will accept the ecological arguments presented by the Iranian representatives, Tehran explains its objections regarding not only Caspian pipelines, but also all projects in the Caspian Sea, by the unsettled status of the Sea. It is obvious that the projects economically strengthening the Caspian littoral state cause Moscow and Teheran's concern as the independence of these countries is strengthening and the outflow of Caspian oil and gas of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan undermines the system of monopolies, established by Iran and Russia on the European markets. The real causes of Iran's and Russia's objections regarding the transcaspian projects should be looked for here", noted Musabeyov.
