BTC pipes 70 mln tons of Caspian oil to world markets

Nearly 70 million tons of crude oil have been transported via Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Pipeline from June 2006 to the end of 2008, Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the crude oil has been relayed with 650 tankers at the Haydar Aliyev Sea terminal in Ceyhan port of Turkey's southern Adana province since June 2, 2006.

It should be noted that the BTC pipeline extends to 1,768 kilometers with 443 kilometers in Azerbaijan, 249 in Georgia and 1,076 kilometers in Turkey. The daily transportation capacity of the pipeline is 1,000,000 barrels.

It takes 10 days for a crude oil to pass from one end of the pipeline to the other. The pipeline construction started in April 2003 and it was first filled with oil on May 18 of 2005. Oil reached the Georgian section of the pipeline on August 10 of 2005, Turkish section on November 18 of 2005, Ceyhan terminal on May 28 of 2006.

The first tanker load of Azerbaijani oil was launched into the sea from Ceyhan port to Europe on June 4 of 2006 and the opening ceremony of the pipeline took place in Ceyhan on June 13 of 2006.

The pipeline shareholders are BP (30.1%); АzBTC (25%); Chevron (8.90%); Statoil (8.71%); ТРАО (6.53%); ENI (5%); Total (5%); Itochu (3.40%); INPEX (2.50%); ConocoPhillips (2.50%) and Amerada Hess (2.36%).
