Azerbaijan buys pedigree cows from Germany

25 December 2008 [14:30] - TODAY.AZ
The first batch of pedigreed cattle Azerbaijan bought from Germany will be sent on January 12, 2009, said Kamil Shamilov, officer of Azerbaijan’s AgroLeasing Company.
According to him, 66 Shvis cows, 66 Holstein-Friesian black-and-white dairy cows and 66 Simmental cows will be delivered in the first shipment. The cattle have been in a 20-day quarantine.

The cows will be delivered by a British firm Rista Alliance which won a tender from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Under the terms of the tender, Rista Alliance will deliver 300 head of Shvis cattle, 500 Holstein-Friesian black-and-white dairy cows and 200 Simmental cows within 120 days.

While distributing cows in the country, priority will be given to the experience and keeping conditions of farmers.

It is planned to buy 4 000 to 5 000 head of pedigree cattle through government funds. The government finances 50% of the price of cows, and farmers will pay 25% of the price in advance and the remaining 25% in installments within three years.

A cow bought from Germany costs AZN 3 600 to AZN 3 800.
