Kazakh official: "It is much cheaper to buy vegetables from Turkmenistan than Azerbaijan"

15 December 2008 [17:05] - TODAY.AZ
The Mangistau oblast of Kazakhstan is ready to establish active contacts with Azerbaijan for supplies of fruits and vegetables, said deputy akim (head of the oblast administration) of Aktau Dmitri Klinchev, according to Fineko/abs.az.

He said "the Mangistau entrepreneurs and residents are interested with the whole specter of goods and services, which the entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan can offer, including fruits and vegetables".

He said Kazakhstan is ready for cooperation and the possible transportation by the sea significantly facilitates the goods exchange.

"Unfortunately, the ferry boat is not regularly sailing between Baku and Aktau but still it exists. We would like more regular supplies in bigger volumes", said Klinchev.

The oblast is interested in getting footstuffs such as sunflower oil, sufar, flour, fruits and vegetables from Azerbaijan.

"At the same time, the prices on fruits and vegetables received from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are more profitable to us than Azerbaijani goods. I think we will be able to find a contact point in this issue", considers Konchev.
