19 November 2008 [14:20] - TODAY.AZ
Blitz-interview with ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Azerbaijan Kestutis Kudzmanas.
- How do you assess results of the fourth energy summit, held in Baku last week?

- It has become an effective continuation of the past meetings of the heads of the states and the Baku declaration fixed new routes of transportation of Caspian energy sources. Azerbaijan made it clear that it is ready to cooperate with Europe and Europeans must treat it duly.

Europe is interested in getting oil by the Nabucco pipeline, but Europe must be more organized in expressing its common will.

Azerbaijani oil may play an important role in Nabucco and Odessa-Brody. Europe must get mature by itself. Azerbaijan has already clarified its will. It is ready to fulfill a function of a supplier of energy sources to Europe and Europe must not linger this process, as an alternative is being prepared for this alternative. The effectiveness, Russia is working in the sphere of optimization of sales markets, must be admitted, there are agreements with Iran and Qater. We see the implementation of projects, though not completely alternative, but still influential.

- Before the summit in Baku, the representatives of the west voiced hope that it will differ from the previous summits by definite results. Do you think, the organizers of the event managed to attain this purpose?

- The results are obvious and we have clearly seen this from the Azerbaijani side. The possible volume of oil and gas supplies is also clear, along with Turkey's role in this context.

It is necessary to ensure supply of energy sources from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan via the Caspian Sea.

The stage of settlement of technical issues comes after the adopted decisions. Now experts have to work.

- Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus was among leaders of the Eastern European countries, represented in the Baku summit. How do you assess this visit in the plan of the further development of the Azerbaijani-Lithuanian relations?

- I want to say with pleasure that our presidents maintain friendly relations. The intensiveness of contacts between them is impressive. Within a year our president has twice visited Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan has twice been in Lithuania.

The contract basis between our countries is deepening. We have signed about twelve different interdepartmental agreements. We have big plans for the future, including energy cooperation, strengthening ties between the parliaments, Thus, there are all conditions for the further expansion and strengthening of our relations.
