19 November 2008 [11:03] - TODAY.AZ
Day.Az blitz-interview with Gianluidji Mascha, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Italy to Azerbaijan.
- The recent energy summit in Baku discussed projects, directly or indirectly concerning Italy. Are you satisfied with the results of the discussions?

- Yes, I think this summit was successful.

We are already participating in the BTC project, the next is another important project, connected with Caspian energy sources, but this time this is a gas project, which will communicate three countries - Turkey-Greece-Italy.

- Which steps are now expected to be taken in the implementation of this project? Is any progress expected for the near future?

- We are working at it so that to have an opportunity to sign an agreement between the member-states in the early next year.

- Much is recently spoken of the problem of the Russian monopoly on the energy market of Europe. Can Azerbaijan promote the settlement of this issue?

- I think free competition meets the interests of all countries. We are for it and we are for stopping monopoly. We have always been for market relations.

- Is the implementation of the Nabucco project real considering that Russia is against it?

- I can not say that Russia is against this project. We consider that all projects, which will ensure supply of energy sources to Europe, are extremely important. Perhaps, they can not be fully implemented simultaneously, but speaking of the prospects, I consider the freedom of choice of energy sources supply corridor to Europe to be important. Certainly, we would like to see implementation of the scheduled projects, which have almost been completed.
