Matthew Bryza: "Russia pumps much oil and gas and it is important for other countries to have competition on the market"

"The cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in energy sector in extremely important and is a basis for the entire transit corridor, by means of which energy supplies will be provided to Europe", said Matthew Bryza, assistant deputy US Secretary of State.

Asked about Russia's position in this issue, he said: "Russia pumps much of oil and gas and it is important for other countries to have competition on the market. There is much gas in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iraw, there is a great demand for it and if supplies are executed, I think it will be good for everyone".

According to Bryza, the United States support holding energy summit in Baku, which is an important component of the European energy policy. "It is time for European partners to arrive in Baku and show our Azerbaijani friends the strategic importance of our country in the issue of diversification of energy supplies to Europe.

"We support all companies and countries which would want energy sources production level in Azerbaijan to rise to ensure energy sources for Georgia, Turkey and Europe, noted he.
