Milli Medjlis deputy Siyavush Novruzov suggests to involve Nakhchivan into the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad.
"This will allow to eliminate the transport blockade of Nakhchivan to a certain extent and communicate the autonomous republic not only to Baku but also to European countries via Georgia and Turkey", said Novruzov at a plenary session of the parliament, while discussing the draft law "On the state budget for 2009", according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project envisions construction of a new 105 kilometer railway section with 76 kilometers to pass via Turkey and 29 kilometers via Georgia. Moreover, 183 kilometer section of the Akhalkalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi railway will be reconstructed in Georgia to raise the annual capacity to 15,000,000 tons of cargo.

There is also a plan to construct a point for train passage from the existing line in Georgia to the European one in Akhalkalaki. The project is estimated at $422,000,000, while considering the accompanying infrastructure at $600,000,000.

Novruzov noted that it is necessary to allocate financial means for involvement of Nakhchivan to the aforementioned project from the state budget.

Moreover, the deputy proposed to review prices of air tickets in Nakhchivan.

"Prices on air tickets to Nakhchivan make AZN 80 with 40 paid as a subsidy by the state. It is necessary to pay a subsidy on the rest AZN 40", noted Novruzov.
