07 October 2008 [15:58] - TODAY.AZ
It is planning to allocate $270,000 for the project of technical cooperation on construction of a research nuclear reactor by the International Atomic Energy Agency within 3 years, said Adil Garibov, chief of the Institute of Radiation Problems of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Science.

He said that this amount does not include purchase of equipment, but will be used for training specialists and arrangement of the visits of experts.

"Azerbaijani side has sent the project for technical cooperation on the construction of a research nuclear reactor to IAEA, but the document has not been ratified yet", said Garibov.

He noted that IAEA will approve this document in December and it will be sent to the Azerbaijani side in January of 2009.

"Azerbaijan will build a research nuclear reactor from its own funds. The reactor capacity will make almost 10-15 MW, but it is still not exact", said Garibov.

It should be noted that it is proposed to set a reactor in Khirdalan in 2009.
