This year the expected receipts of the country's economy from the tourism sector must exceed a billion of dollars, said Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev.
"In 2009 the country's economy from is expected to get over a billion of dollars from the tourism sector", said he while speaking at the 7th all-republican conference on internal tourism Satuday.
"Last year Azerbaijan accounted for over a million of foreign tourists and in this connection the economic gains from the tourism sector made $758,000,000", said the Minister.
He noted that by results of the first half of this year, the revenues grew 34% as compared to the same period of the last year.
"Now we are speaking of a million of foreign tourists per year. And now we should strive for bringing that number to 2-3 mln of tourists per year. We are at the start of our way. The tourism organizations should try to attain the profound turn in this sphere", said Garayev.
