Rasim Aghayev: "Nabucco project is unreal without Russia's participation"

13 September 2008 [09:49] - TODAY.AZ
According to Azerbaijani political scientist Rasim Aghayev, Nabucco pipeline is unreal without Russia's participation, reports Novosti-Azerbaijan.
"This is because Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have already decided about their plans to transport energy sources and they do not need Nabucco, while Russia have good relations with all of these countries", explained he.

He said Nabucco, which is a US dream, is intended to transport all energy flows bypassing Russia.

"But it is impossible to deprive Russia, a country, which is equal to OPEC for its energy potential, of the opportunity to export its energy sources", noted Aghayev.

He said Russia can send its energy flows to SOC states, especially to China. Even so more, Russia has a good ally in Iran's person and it can always use the Caucasus routes.

"Conduction of numerous conferences and summits in the Caspian countries on transportation of energy sources to the world markets is caused only by the US position. This can be bound to Dick Cheney's visit to Baku. But, I think, his visit was late", concluded Aghayev.
