02 September 2008 [09:41] - TODAY.AZ
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will send a delegation to Azerbaijan on September 2, the IAEA coordinator for Azerbaijan Andrei Chupov told APA.
He said the delegation will have discussions about the recent projects in the oncological center and plans for the future. The visit will focus on the review of the prospects of constructing nuclear reactor outside Baku for research purposes.

He noted that Azerbaijan and IAEA will recruit and train potential staff for this project.

One of the main points at present is to achieve the establishment of a State Agency on Control of Nuclear and Radiation Activities.

IAEA recently issued an agreement for the construction of a nuclear reactor outside Baku for research purposes. The reactor will operate under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute for Radiation Problems, which specializes in nuclear energy research.
Azerbaijan has no any nuclear facilities or nuclear materials now.
