Hungarian Prime Minister: "Azerbaijan may change European energy policy"

08 July 2008 [09:03] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan may change energy policy of Europe, considers Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany.
He told reporters in Baku yesterday that Hungary supports implementation of the Nabucco project.

"This project has obvious advantages as compared to the South flow and we all hope that it will eventually become a reality", said the Prime Minister.

He noted that there is a need to find investors urgently for implementation of this project and clarify the volumes of gas, which can fill the pipeline. "Certainly, Azerbaijan plays a crucial role in this issue", considers the Hungarian Premier.

"Azerbaijan will benefit from supplying gas only to Hungary. The population of Hungary makes 10,000,000 people and our yearly demand of gas is 1-2 bln cubic meters. But the population of the European Union makes 500 mln people, in the next 15 years Europe's demand of gas will rise by 50% and deficit will reach 150-200 bln cubic meters. Of them 30 bln cubic meters can be supplied by Nabucco".
