Representatives of Russian energy company to arrive in Azerbaijan

18 February 2008 [18:15] - TODAY.AZ
Representatives of Russian Inter RAO EEC will arrive in Azerbaijan to hold talks on electric power sale and purchase on February 21.

The due statement was made by vice president of Azerenerji Marlen Askerov.

He said Azerbaijan has already put forward proposals on the issue. Yet, Askerov refused to elaborate on the main point of proposals.

The discussions are on the last stage and there is a plan to adopt a final resolution in the near future. The talks in Baku will last for two days.

It should be noted that Russia plans to raise the price of electric energy for Azerbaijan by 30%, proposing to Azerbaijan to raise the tariff of energy exported to Russia.

The document on energy exchange between Azerenerji and RAO EEC was signed on January 15 of 2007. According to the contract, the price of 1 KW/hours of Russian energy made up 3,636 cents for Azerbaijan.

Russia supplied 200-250 MW to the country in the rush hours. By the agreement, the cost of the electric energy, supplied by Azerbaijan to Russia, was raised from 1.58 up to 1.8 cents. The contract covered the whole year of 2007, while the tariffs the first quarter.

In April of 2007 the side introduced amendments to the document. In line with the document, covering a period until February 2008, the tariff on import of Russian electric energy has been raised, yet the volume of import has not been restricted.

Currently, Azerbaijan imports electric energy from Russia when necessary.
