Iran has suggested Azerbaijan to construct a 8 kilometers railroad Astara-Azerbaijan-Astara-Iran.
At the same time, it is ready to provide financial assistance to Azerbaijan in this issue, Novosti-Azerbaijan reports.
The due announcement was made by Iran's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Nasir Khamidi Zari.
"The implementation of the project will help raise the volumes of mutual cargo transportations between the two countries from 200,000 up to 1,200,000", the diplomat noted.
Moreover, according to Nasir Khamidi Zari, the new railroad will facilitate process of cargo supplies from Russia and Europe to Iraq via Azerbaijan and Iran.
"If this transport project is implemented, the transportation land route from Europe to Iraq will reduce by 800 kilometers, which will allow raising volumes of cargo transportations in this direction up to 1,200,000 tons and up to 2,000,000 tons in perspective", Nasir Khamidi Zari said.
The construction of the railroad between the borderline cities of Astara will be of great use to Azerbaijan.
