Japanese government allocates over $172,000 to Azerbaijan

Agreements on implementation of two projects in Azerbaijan, estimated at $172,205, were signed in the residence of Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Masamutsi Oki Tuesday.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador of Japan to Azerbaijan Masamutsi Oki, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Ismail Ismailov, as well as deputy of Milli Medjlis, chief of the Association of Karate-do Federation of Azerbaijan Ulvi Guliyev, chief executive of the Reserve Center of Community Development of Azerbaijan Yasin Dadashev.

The funds are allocated within the framework of the grant program "Security of people and roots of herbs".

"The Japanese government pays special attention to the development of education in Azerbaijan and implementation of such grant programs will continue in the coming years", Masamutsi Oki noted.

Minister M.Mardanov thanked the ambassador for assistance on behalf of the government of Azerbaijan.

The first contract envisions construction of a secondary school building in the Yeni Khojavend settlement of Beylagan, bordering on Khojavend.

By the said contract, a single-storey school building for 12 classrooms will be built at the expense of a grant in the amount of $86,000, allocated by Japan. Over 200 pupils-refugees from Khojvend will study in the said school.

The school will be built in 6 months. Upon the completion of the construction, the school will be provided with necessary technical equipment by the held of the Executive Powers of Khojavend.

By another contract, technical equipment will be supplied for the Association of Karate-Do Federation of Azerbaijan.

The document was signed by Ambassador Masamutsi Oki, representing Japan and Yasin Dadashev and Ulbi Kuliyev, representing Azerbaijan.

A total of $6,683,494 has been allocated by the Japanese Government to Azerbaijan  for implementation of 99 projects in the framework of a grant program "Security of people and roots of herbs" since 2000.
