19 December 2007 [17:58] - TODAY.AZ
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan has introduced a draft law "On compulsory accident insurance", relying on the global practice, to the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection Fizuli Alekperov, the Ministry is improving the working legislation for reducing the number of employment accidents to minimum.

"Unfortunately, 50% of accidents occur in the construction sector. 61 people died this year. Compensations for the accident must be paid by employers and there are some problems in this connection. We have worked out a new draft law for the settlement of these problems", he announced.

F.Alekperov said that insurance companies, including Azersygorta and others and the State Fund of Social Protection, will be able to engage in compulsory accident insurance following the ratification of the draft law.

He noted that the government is not able to undertake the repayment of compensations. "Who will pay compensations to the victims of the crash of the Muttefekir building? We often face such problems".

According to the Minister, the proposals on introducing amendments and alterations to the Code of Administrative Law Offences have been worked out to raise responsibility of employers.

He said the ratification of proposals will play a big role in the prevention of such facts.
