Azerbaijani government recommended to use Cost of Living Index to calculate inflation

13 December 2007 [14:35] - TODAY.AZ
According to experts of the Economic Research Center, the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan deliberately uses imperfect methods of statistical research to declare information on country's economic growth which would please the government.
This statement was made by the head of the Center, Gubad Ibadoglu

The officials of the center consider that the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan must use methods, applied in the developed countrues.

Thus, the Cost of Living Index, which compares the indicators of basic and initial inflation in definite periods with the existent prices.

Moreover, the Center suggests the use of the method of comparison with the cost of McDonalds' Big Mac, applied in the world.

Considering the fact that the production method of this sandwich is similar everywhere, its cost is influenced only by the prices of products and labor force. In line with this index, Azerbaijani Big Mac, which costs $2.95, turns out to be more expensive that the Russian one (1.8) and a bit cheaper that the American one (3.2).

The third comfortable statistical method lies in the comparison of the cost of i-pod telecommunication services. The Center defined that Azerbaijan occupies the 4th place in the world for the expensiveness of this service. "It evidences high inflation rate in our country", G.Ibadoglu said.
