Italian businessmen to discuss cooperation with Azerbaijani partners in Baku in January

The statement was made by the Azerbaijani Minister of Economic development Heydar Babayev during a press conference yesterday.

"Italy is the main partner of Azerbaijan in external trade and the cooperation with this country is of high importance for us. At the same time, we are intend to change the structure of the turnover between our countries", he said.

The Minister noted that Italian companies are currently operating on the consumer market of Azerbaijan.

"But we would like them to participate in the production sector. I think there is an opportunity for the implementation of joint projects with the Azerbaijan Investment company", he noted.

The Economic Development Minister added that Azerbaijan will prepare definite proposals to be presented during the visit of Italian entrepreneurs.

"Italy believes in Azerbaijan's potential and therefore we are interested in the expansion and strengthening of cooperation. Production and investment activity are the priority trends in the activity of Italian companies in Azerbaijan", the Italian Economic Development Minister Pierluigi Bersani noted, in turn.

He said that in frames of the Baku visit, the Italian businessmen will determine sectors, which are attractive for investments.

It should be reminded that the turnover between Azerbaijan and Italy made up $2,9 billion by results of 2006.
