Azerbaijan has levers to curb inflation

01 June 2007 [08:11] - TODAY.AZ
Foreign experts fear that increasing budget expenditures will push up inflation in Azerbaijan. Surely, inflation mushrooms when there is money in great amount, said Ziyad Samadzade, chair parliament commission for economic policy.

"It is necessary not to be liberal to inflation. Huge inflows into the country strengthen our national currency and expenditures cause inflation. But we have levers to rein inflation. The growth of money incomes overtakes and exceeds inflation rate," he added.

Samadzade noted that amendments to the 2007 budget increased budget expenditures by AZN 600 million or 8%.

"Defense spending grew by AZN 16 million, education expenditure by AZN 24 million, expenditures for improvement of living standards of refugees and internally displaced people by AZN 49 million, health expenditure by AZN 10 million and capital investment expenditures by AZN 369 million," he concluded.
