Azerbaijan considers Popular Computer Project

19 May 2007 [10:05] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan should offer great concessions in regional innovation zones to be established, said Ali Abbasov, the country's Communications and Information Technologies Minister.

He added that the Popular (People's) Computer Project, aimed at improving socially disadvantaged people's computer knowledge and access to the Net, will be implemented by Microsoft, Intel and the government.

The Popular Computer Project is aimed at offering state-of-the-art computers to poor families on credit for three years at a low interest rate. Within the scope of the implementation of two-year project, the number of computers per 100 people will reach 20-25 in Azerbaijan. At present there are 3 computers per 100 people in the country.

"The main problem is to apply low-interest credit program for this project. We are considering what concessions we can make," he noted. APA-Economics
