Azerbaijan to start Popular Computer Project in autumn

Azerbaijan's Communications and Information Technologies Ministry has set up a working group for the Popular (People's) Computer Project aimed at improving socially disadvantaged people's computer knowledge and access to the Net.

The Minister Ali Abbasov said that the working group includes Microsoft and Intel experts. The Popular Computer Project is aimed at offering state-of-the-art computers to poor families on credit for three years at a low interest rate. Within the scope of the implementation of two-year project, the number of computers per 100 people will reach 20-25 in Azerbaijan. At present there are 3 computers per 100 people in the country.

Abbasov said that he project will start in autumn, 2007 and will continue by the end of 2009. APA-Economics
