03 May 2007 [11:32] - TODAY.AZ
Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Government Sector Development, signed on Thursday an international transport agreement with Ziya Mammadov, Minister of transport of Azerbaijan, to enhance the bilateral trade and transportation between the two countries.

Al Mansouri emphasized the importance of the rapid growth of the Atarbijani economy and hailed the distinguished relationship between Azerbaijan and the UAE.

"Azerbaijan is an important gateway to north Iran and East Turkey and Russia and even further to Kazakhstan and china, this where we see it natural that all kind of trades should be established between the tow counties. We have been successfully attracting businesses and trade to the UAE and we stand together to cooperate in Azerbaijan and beyond," Al Mansouri said.

"In the last 12 years many changes happened in Azerbaijan and we want the people in the UAE and the region to benefit from these changes and as the minister said it is a natural cooperation. I encourage my self in all areas in transporting, whether by air or land and to cooperate in the expertise of the infrastructure such as airport, air cargo terminal, port free zones and roads and the technologies supporting this infrastructure," Al Mansouri added.

"I would like to highly stand my appreciation for the hospitality and the highest warm reception that I received from my colleague the minister," Mammadov said.

"As you know recently, our president (president of Azerbaijan) paid a visit to the UAE with a government official visit and they have negotiated different aspects of the economy and how to expand the cooperation. After that visit, we have been assigned to expand the cooperation in the transport sector to establish a new level of cooperation and after discussion with Al Mansouri, we signed today this international road transport agreement. Geographically we are very close countries and it is naturally to develop any mean of cooperation especially in the transport sector," he said.

"The cooperation with UAE requires such an agreement, as yesterday evening I have informed Al Mansouri that our GDP has increased up to (36%) and there is no similarity worldwide with for such intensive economic development and we also witness how dynamical the UAE developed. And we are already signed such an international road agreement with 27 countries, and it is really very delightful in fact to see our brothers from UAE be a part of this cooperation," he underscored.
