Azerbaijan drafts Popular Computer Project

Azerbaijan's Communications and Information Technologies Ministry has drafted the initial version of Popular (People's) Computer Project aimed at improving socially disadvantaged people's computer knowledge and access to the Net

Ministry official Rufat Gulmammadov told APA-Economics the working group involving Microsoft and Intel experts will prepare discuss the draft before preparing a package of proposals for the Government.

Representatives from Microsoft Office in Moscow will visit Baku on May 4.

"The Popular Computer Project is aimed at offering state-of-the-art computers to poor families on credit for three years at a low interest rate," he said.

Within the scope of the implementation of two-year project, the number of computers per 100 people will reach 20-25 in Azerbaijan. At present there are 3 computers per 100 people in the country.
